Wine Club Tasting Notes – April 19

Wine Club Tasting Notes with Angie Atkinson

April 2019

It’s a busy time in the vineyards and our brand new winery this month!

We are extremely excited to have the winery in operation; we are so excited in fact that we wanted to share in this special time by doing something special for you. We have included a bottle of the much sought after Cuvée Aux Antipodes Pinot Noir 2016 in your wine club shipment! Whether you decide to enjoy your bottle on a cold winter evening or keep it tucked away for a while longer, we hope you enjoy this little treat from us to you.

With snow already on the mountain tops and the stunning Autumn colours settling in, keep an eye on our social media pages to see the wonderful scenery changing around us and what’s happening in the world of Prophet’s Rock!

In the April Winemakers Selection:

1 x Prophet’s Rock Cuvée Aux Antipodes Pinot Noir 2016

The 2016 is the second vintage of our collaboration wine with François Millet. It is a wonderful mix of old and new world aromas and flavours. Bursting with elegance this wine has red cherry and raspberry with lifted florals and dried herbs on the nose which continue onto the palate. The wine finishes with fine grained tannins and a subtle minerality, a moreish wine that lingers on the palate.

3 x Prophet’s Rock Home Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Our 2015 has been selling like hot cakes throughout the country! The 2015 vintage was smaller than previous years due to the first vintage of the Antipodes being harvested from our Home Vineyard site. Lively primary fruit with unmistakeable Central Otago characters, you will find it in most of New Zealand’s finest dining establishments!

2 x Prophet’s Rock Infusion Pinot Noir 2017

With the weather cooling down but the days still filled with sunshine (long may it continue) our Infusion is still the wine of the season. I love the way this wine is developing in the bottle, still retaining its crunchy berry flavours but hints of complexity are now creeping in making the wine even more interesting than it already was.

2 x Rocky Point Pinot Noir 2017

The 2017 vintage is coming to an end and it won’t be long before the 2018 is in the market place and in your wine club shipments! Drinking wonderfully the 2017 is a must have wine with wintery evening meals, it has the softness of a wine that can be consumed on its own but the structure to be matched with your favourite meat dishes. Enjoy!

3 x Prophet’s Rock Pinot Gris 2017

As you know our Pinot Gris is a year round wine, it’s always a good time for our wine! It is a favourite of Cameron Douglas MS, the only Master Sommelier in New Zealand. Our Pinot Gris is unique in style and flavour, a rare mixture of fruit, texture, complexity and elegance. This Pinot Gris is a wine destined for greatness, make sure you pop a bottle or two away and see how it develops over time.

1 x 2016 Kallstadter Riesling

While living and working in Alsace I was fortunate to visit the Phalz a number of times and so this wine is a bit of a nostalgia for me. I always found the wines of the Phalz to be the closest German region in profile to what we were doing in Alsace. The wines have that little more power and ripeness than further north and the wines of Kallstadter are a great example of what to expect from the region. Bright fresh aromatics with the texture to work well with a range of seafood and fish dishes… enjoy!
